CanSTEAM Foundation Registered charity
§ B · Terms of use Effective April 21, 2026

The house rules for using this website.

These terms govern your use of cansteam.org, our donation flow, and any material we publish on either. They are written plainly; they are legally binding.

01

Acceptance

By accessing cansteam.org, subscribing to our updates, registering a team, donating, or otherwise interacting with our services, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

02

About CanSTEAM

CanSTEAM Foundation is a Canadian registered charity (BN 791575509RR0001) incorporated in Ontario. Our registered office is 205 Riviera Drive, Unit 2, Markham, ON L3R 5J8. We operate this website to describe our programs, solicit support, and publish information relevant to STEAM education in Canada.

03

Who may use the site

The website is open to the public. If you are under the age of majority in your province, you should use the site with the involvement of a parent, guardian, or teacher, particularly before submitting any personal information. Parts of the site that handle donations, partnerships, or team registration are intended for adults acting on behalf of themselves or their organization.

04

Acceptable use

You agree to use the site only for lawful purposes and in a way that does not infringe anyone else's rights or restrict their use of the site. You will not attempt to gain unauthorized access, probe for vulnerabilities, introduce malicious code, scrape content at a volume that burdens the service, or misrepresent yourself when contacting us. Security research conducted in good faith and reported privately to info@cansteam.org is welcome.

05

Donations and tax receipts

Donations are processed through a third-party payment platform accessible at go.cansteam.org/donate. All donations to CanSTEAM Foundation are in Canadian dollars and are eligible for an official tax receipt issued in accordance with Canada Revenue Agency rules, provided you supply a valid name and address. Donations are final. If you believe a donation was made in error — for example, a duplicate charge or an unauthorized transaction — contact info@cansteam.org within 30 days and we will work with the payment processor to review your request.

06

Intellectual property

The text, images, logos, and visual system on cansteam.org are the property of CanSTEAM Foundation, its contributors, or its licensors, and are protected by Canadian and international copyright and trademark law. You may view, share, and quote material for personal, educational, and non-commercial purposes with attribution. Any other use — reproduction, distribution, modification, or use of our name, logo, or marks to imply endorsement — requires our written permission. VEX, VEX IQ, and VEX V5RC are trademarks of their respective owners and are used here with reference to the programs we support.

07

User submissions

When you send us an email, fill out a contact or interest form, or submit information through any intake on this site, you confirm that the information is accurate to the best of your knowledge and that you have the right to share it. You grant CanSTEAM a limited licence to use the information for the purpose you provided it — responding to you, coordinating a program, or administering a donation — in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

08

Third-party links and services

The site links to third parties including VEX Ontario (vexontario.ca), VEX Robotics, LinkedIn, CanadaHelps or a comparable donation intermediary, and our hosting provider. These organizations are independent of CanSTEAM and have their own terms and policies; we are not responsible for their content or practices. A link from this site does not imply an endorsement beyond what is explicitly stated.

09

Availability and changes

We maintain this website on a best-efforts basis. We may update content, suspend access for maintenance, or retire portions of the site at any time without notice. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free from harmful components, although we take reasonable measures to keep it safe.

10

Disclaimer of warranties

The site and its content are provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. Except as required by applicable Canadian consumer protection law, CanSTEAM makes no representations or warranties of any kind, express or implied, regarding the site, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or accuracy of information.

11

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by Ontario law, CanSTEAM Foundation, its directors, officers, employees, and volunteers are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages arising out of your use of the site or reliance on its content. Our aggregate liability for any direct claim arising in connection with the site will not exceed one hundred Canadian dollars (CAD 100) or the amount you contributed to CanSTEAM in the twelve months preceding the claim, whichever is greater. Nothing in this section limits liability that cannot be excluded by law.

12

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless CanSTEAM Foundation, its directors, officers, employees, and volunteers from claims, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach of these terms or your misuse of the site.

13

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the laws of Canada applicable in Ontario. Any dispute arising under or in connection with them will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Ontario, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles.

14

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms when our practices change or when law requires it. Material changes will be dated on this page. Continued use of the site after a posted change constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
